There live a people who will never feel the sacrifices their forefathers made to fight for their freedom. They will never truly understand that only a short time ago their people were not citizens in the land of the free—they could be shipped off to an institution against their will, be arrested for going out in public or be barred from even applying for work.
These people will know, though, that it is their right as Americans to exist—to be a part of the fabric of American society.
They will demand employment, because the promise of America lies in the opportunity to improve life through hard work and dedication.

ADAPT voiced their views to Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House earlier this week as she was giving a speech.
Left flaps its wing at Pelosi, Obama Conference attendees complain Democrats not liberal enough By David Eldridge 8:47 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010
Crowds repeatedly interrupted and heckled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tuesday at America's Future Now conference in what was the latest and most dramatic evidence of simmering, left-wing anger among those attending the three-day liberal gathering.
Conference organizers had hoped Tuesday would be the day to highlight liberal success stories, but the theme running throughout the event — from hallway conversations to ballroom speeches — was frustration with Mrs. Pelosi, Senate Democrats, White House operatives and President Obama himself.
The tone was set early when Mrs. Pelosi's speech at Washington's Omni Shoreham hotel ballroom was hijacked by a rowdy coalition of antiwar protesters and advocates for the disabled who were angry over a health care bill they said was inadequate.

Rush Limbaugh has some ugly things to say about the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), which he regards as “nothing”. To me, the CIRM is the greatest advance in the history of world medicine. We’ll get to both opinions in a moment. But first, Mr. Limbaugh’s view on embryonic stem cell research. He says these stem cells come from abortions. "Using embryonic stem cells…I’m telling you, and I have from the get-go, who is behind this—is the—the militant pro-abortion crowd, because you need abortions to get these…” Rush Limbaugh, July 19, 2006 (emphasis added). Kaney O'Neill, 31, is fighting to retain custody of her five month old son Aidan James O'Neill. The Air Force veteran was injured in a fall from a balcony during Hurricane Floyd that left her a quadriplegic. She lives independently with the assistance of her family and a full time paid caregiver.
The child's father, self employed 49 year old attorney David Trais, is sueing for full custody claiming in court documents that her disability "greatly limits her ability to care for the minor, or even wake up if the minor is distressed".

Many of us involved in disability advocacy dream of a day when those with disabilities in the U.S. unite and form a serious, influential constituency – one much like the NAACP or AARP.
See, as those with disabilities, if we simply united as a body of millions, solidifying our collective voice on a national level, issues like detrimentally-low mobility and in-home care funding would be resolved in an instant – our influence on elected officials would be so great that they’d address our needs to no end. It really would be that simple – no rocket science or mountain climbing involved.

So, what is happening on the Hill? The Hill, (speaking of Capital Hill where our legislators are deciding our fates for the future of our mobility) has many items on their agenda this year and the upcoming year for 2010 that will test our ability to live independent and mobile lives.
Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Finance Committee factored in some legislation that will ultimately affect people who need mobility products. The Finance committee is where all pay fors begin their journey in legislation to become a bill. Whatever the finance committee places in a bill will then be blended with what the House of Representatives have drafted and will be included for final consideration within Healthcare Reform.
Now, what does this mean for many women and people who have Medicare, well it’s not good!
