June 28, 2010 (San Bernardino, CA)—SoCal SuperTrucks and Ricky James finished off an event-filled weekend by winning the SuperLite class during Round 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series this past weekend at Miller Motorsports Park outside Salt Lake City, UT.
The team’s race weekend kicked off on Friday, where the SuperLite class competed in a $6,000-purse, exhibition race for 2,000+ Miller Motorsports Park VIP’s. Ricky had an intense battle with Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg throughout the race, taking the overall lead at the halfway point of the race. With 3 laps to go, James began to experience severe arm pump in his left arm, which controls the trucks gas, brakes, clutch and shifting. Ricky slowly faded back, saving his cramping arm for the weekend’s more-important point’s rounds.

Tanner, my youngest son and his bud Alex had the honor of attending the Steelers training camp today. Oh, can you imagine two 10-year-old boys on the sidelines of the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers? These heros got autographs from Chris Hoke, #76, and Max Starks, #78. Thanks guys -- all of you.

The Accessible Racing event at the Atlanta 200 this past October was not only fun for myself and Kim, it was a challenge. We were onhand to help the Accessible Racing Team for the entire weekend at the Fan Fest and were able to watch part of the Craftsman Truck Series from a private lounge belonging to American Commercial Lines - who graciously made their VIP room available to us through Randy at HardHead Marketing, where we were interviewed about the program from a driver and marketing point of view. The view from the tower was awesome. We could see the entire track and all the stands. Even with the glass and the height, we could FEEL the trucks, and if you've never seen a race in real life, it's a LOT faster than it looks on TV. A LOT faster. Harley Davidson Motor Sports made sure Kim was stylish and warm in a nice Harley Davidson Racing hoodie and Honda saved the day on Sunday by loaning us a generator when our own wouldn't start. Their assistance made it possible for Lee Perry of Driving Aids.com to have the hand controlled racecar video game operational.

How many of people are afraid to go off the pavement in fear of getting stuck? How many have a phobia of the grass and dirt? How many people, in this day and age, won’t “step” off the concrete? Well, with the information I am about to spring on you, NO ONE should fear the terra firma anymore. Grass and dirt... to some it's an inviting place to explore, but to those of us on wheels or who use other gear to get around, that same inviting space can be a whole different place. If you've been hesitant to get off the sidewalk for fear of being stuck, then your time has come.

Things have definitely changed over the years. Technology has run rampant in the disabled sports arena from titanium and magnesium-framed wheelchairs build custom for the individual user to prosthetic limbs with microchips in them to learn a person’s movements. In the last couple years we have had people breaking all the barriers that were set before us by all sorts of people disabled and able-bodied alike. Yes, we put barriers on ourselves! So many times I hear people say, “I can’t do that.” Well, yes, actually you can if you really want to. I mean, come on! We have had a 14 year old do the first ever back flip in a wheelchair to a paraplegic racing his dirt bike in the Baja 500. We have infiltrated the CORR Truck Series, Nascar, and are knocking on the door of so many more events.

You know it's going to be one of those days when the State of Colorado starts mocking you. It was 5 am, I had just gotten up and was doing what I always do when I get up. I let the dog out, started some coffee and turned on the weather channel to see what to expect. I was just getting into a game of dog hockey and waiting for the coffee pot to finish when it started.
At first it was just Colorado, but then Utah and Wyoming joined in. Even Idaho (usually the quiet one) got in on it. I knew California wouldn't be that far behind (since they like to work as a team) and although I'm fully grown, I'm not afraid to admit that Colorado (and his cronies) knew just what to do to start agitating my dots.
