June 28, 2010 (San Bernardino, CA)—SoCal SuperTrucks and Ricky James finished off an event-filled weekend by winning the SuperLite class during Round 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series this past weekend at Miller Motorsports Park outside Salt Lake City, UT.

The team’s race weekend kicked off on Friday, where the SuperLite class competed in a $6,000-purse, exhibition race for 2,000+ Miller Motorsports Park VIP’s. Ricky had an intense battle with Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg throughout the race, taking the overall lead at the halfway point of the race. With 3 laps to go, James began to experience severe arm pump in his left arm, which controls the trucks gas, brakes, clutch and shifting. Ricky slowly faded back, saving his cramping arm for the weekend’s more-important point’s rounds.

How many of people are afraid to go off the pavement in fear of getting stuck? How many have a phobia of the grass and dirt? How many people, in this day and age, won’t “step” off the concrete? Well, with the information I am about to spring on you, NO ONE should fear the terra firma anymore. Grass and dirt... to some it's an inviting place to explore, but to those of us on wheels or who use other gear to get around, that same inviting space can be a whole different place.  If you've been hesitant to get off the sidewalk for fear of being stuck, then your time has come.

Things have definitely changed over the years. Technology has run rampant in the disabled sports arena from titanium and magnesium-framed wheelchairs build custom for the individual user to prosthetic limbs with microchips in them to learn a person’s movements. In the last couple years we have had people breaking all the barriers that were set before us by all sorts of people disabled and able-bodied alike. Yes, we put barriers on ourselves! So many times I hear people say, “I can’t do that.” Well, yes, actually you can if you really want to. I mean, come on! We have had a 14 year old do the first ever back flip in a wheelchair to a paraplegic racing his dirt bike in the Baja 500. We have infiltrated the CORR Truck Series, Nascar, and are knocking on the door of so many more events.
